Beautiful old juvenile book with the stories of 30 heroes; from Socrates to Hannibal, Joan of Arc to Elizabeth 1, George Washington to Clara Barton, Garibaldi to Father Damien, and Theodore Roosevelt, the Wright Brothers, Lawrence of Arabia and Charles Lindbergh. Frank Godwin's work adorns the cover board with a sea-going battle. The color frontispiece of Joan of Arc and 38 other beautiful illustrations are included. The boards are dark blue with gilt print and gilt and red design. Gilt print is somewhat darkened on front and rubbed and darkened on spine. Decorative end papers have some some pencil marks; inside ffep has previous owner's name, and there is a gift subscription on half title page. Lovely book to inspire our young people.
