A.C. Greene's 50+ Best Books on Texas

A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". We at Texas Star Books try to keep copies from Greene's list on hand. Some are easier to find than others, so we may not have them all. To view his picks, click on the book title. 199 pp. Crisp and bright copy with corner and spine end bumping. Clean interior. Dust jacket is slightly rubbed with light edge and cornerwear. Small closed tear (1/4") on top front panel near hinge, and top of spine is a little frayed. Slight edge creasing. Small mark on rear white panel at top edge.

Sir Edmund Hillary writes of his adventure, up the Ganges River. 1st Ed., 3rd Ptg.273 pp. Crisp and bright copy with minor wear to boards. Previous owner's embossed stamp on several pages and name and address in ink on front pasted down paper. Else clean interior. Dust jacket has slight tearing and chipping on front.

3 Fairfield Osborn The Pacific World
New York W. W. Norton 1944 Early Reprint Hard Cover Very Good Very Good+ 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall 
The Pacific after World War II. 218 pp. With an introduction for American servicemen stationed in the Pacific by William Beebe. This copy is inscribed with a 1948 date to a past president of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The gift inscription is signed by Lt. Gen. Robert C. Richardson, Jr. who was the commanding general of army forces in the Central Pacific (MIDPAC). Book is tight with light corner/spine end bumping and edgewear. Interior is clean with age yellowing pages. Dust jacket has price stamped on lower portion of front flap. It is missing chips along top and bottom edges and spine extremes. There is creasing and some tearing. Lower spine area has damp stain which does not impact book. Front of dust jacket has two faint "coaster rings". Now in protective cover. Laid in the book is an order form for Bailey Willis' "Friendly China" published by Stanford University Press. Interesting little book with great historical provenance.

London Adam and Charles Black 1908 No Stated Edition Decorative Cloth Very Good- No Jacket 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall Mrs. Willingham Rawnsley 
Victorian depiction of the English countryside - "Drawn and Described by Mrs. Willingham Rawnsley" - 166 pp. with 16 full color reproductions of the lady's art. Green boards with gilt leaf motif and print. Boards have slight spotting with a little darkening, as is the spine. Corners and spine ends have light bumping. Pages are age-yellowed and edges have foxing/spotting. End papers are fairly heavily foxed, and pages have occasional foxing, spotting and damp stains - none of which affect text or the lovely illustrations. Opens to gutter in places. A lovely reminder of a simpler and more genteel time.
