A.C. Greene's 50+ Best Books on Texas

A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". We at Texas Star Books try to keep copies from Greene's list on hand. Some are easier to find than others, so we may not have them all. To view his picks, click on the book title. Stated First Edition signed by author on front paper. A grand tale from the master horse trader. Illustrated by noted Western artist, Joe Beeler. Large octavo, 7 1/2"W X 9 3/4"H. 145 pp. Book has slight right lean. Gift inscription on copyright page opposite author's inscription to previous owner. Tan cloth boards with bright gilt title on spine and bright gilt mustang design on front board. Very minor edgewear. Dust jacket is orange with Beeler's illustration, a horse and rider with wild mustangs on front panel. Price remains. Minor edge wear. Tope edge has creasing and tearing/fraying. Corners have light chipping wear. Front has a few small smudges, and rear has a spot or two. Light rubbing on hinges and flap folds. Now in protective cover. A very nice signed copy of a Western classic.

Spotting and wear on edges with slight bumping on corners. Spine foot is bumped and the cloth scuffed. Dust jacket has purple background with beautiful picture of an Arabian horse. There is moderate chipping and tearing on edges. Spine head is chipped with 1/2" missing.

New York Arco Publishing Co. 1968 15th Ed. Hard Cover Very Good Good++ 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall 
Subtitled, "An Illustrated Manual of Horse Medicine and Surgery" with over 100 illustrations. 656 pp. Tight copy with black cloth boards and bright gilt embossed type. Top and bottome of spine have fading and bumping, the top showing a little fraying. Interior is bright and clean. Dust jacket has extensive damp staining - at bottom of spine and extending onto front and a little onto the rear. Top of spine is missing a triangular piece, 2" down from top and 1 1/2" across top. Also a damp stain extends from that missing area past the front hinge and a little onto the top of the dust jacket. Corners are worn and chipped, and there is occasional rubbing and spotting. Still, it's intact and usable - now in protective cover.
