A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". Bright red cloth boards with tan cloth spine which shows insect damage on rear. Top 1" of cloth on rear hinge has been eaten away to expose the cardboard of the spine. Other smaller places eaten away. Still, book is intact and red cloth of front board is bright with bright gilt print. No dust jacket, as issued.

Paisanos, or roadrunners, the name given by J. Frank Dobie to his fellows, is the theme of this collection of Texas folklore published by the Texas Folklore Society, Number XLI. Some photographs throughout with line drawings of the paisano by Linda Miller Roach. 180 pp. Stated First Edition. Brown cloth boards are bright and crisp, as is the book. With clean interior, appears unread. Tan laid dust jacket is clipped from the manufacturer. Roach's drawings are on the cover - one of a fierce roadrunner flying at a rattler. Fine copy of fine book.

"Early Day El Pasoan, Amateur Artist, Champion Golfer, Avid Wildcatter and Gold Seeker" are the descriptions of Adah Hadlock on the front dust jacket of this scarce copy, signed on the half title page by her and by the great Texas book designer, Carl Hertzog, who designed this lovely book. Pale purple linen boards with a prickly pear graphic on the front and white impressed title on spine. Published by Texas Western Press, which was founded by Hertzog. Crisp and clean copy with very light edgewear and clean interior. Dust jacket is crisp with very slight rubbing which shows on back. There is a painting by Adah Hadlock on the bottom half of the front jacket in gray-green tones, and the rest of the design has peach and flesh tones with green print. Very attractive. Has light chipping on spine ends and a 1/3in. chip missing on right front corner. Highly collectible and nice copy.

Spine is the least bit sunned, and spine ends have light bumping. Forward top corners have very slight crease. Lovely collectible by Texas literary icons.

Price-clipped dust jacket has chipping loss at top of spine, about 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" and smaller chip at bottom of front hinge. Light chipping with a little fraying/tearing on other edges. White background shows a little soiling/smudging, and spine is somewhat tanned. Now in protective cover.
