A.C. Greene's 50+ Best Books on Texas

A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". Volume 1. 456 pp. Tight and crisp copy. Previous owner's name in pencil on front free end paper - else clean interior. Dust jacket is clean with very light wear. Spine has slight fading. Very nice copy.

Dust jacket has light corner and spine end wear. Front top edge has a little creasing with 1/2" closed tear. Rubbing/soiling shows on cream-colored background, especially on rear panel. Now in protective cover.

Chicago The Lewis Publishing Co. 1888 First Edition Leather Poor 4to - over 9" - 12" tall 
Large format, 9 1/2"W X 12"H. 664 pp. Book is intact with all pages and end papers intact. Front hinge has loosened, and rear hinge is separated from leather of spine, which has worn and cracked places and a piece missing from base, Significant wear on corners and edges with rubbing on boards. Gilt design and print on front board are dulled, as is that on page edges.. Front end papers have some penciled writing, a stamped word, "March", and a few small tears. Both front and rear end papers have foxing and smudging. Pages have occasional foxing, spotting and a few tears. Opens to signature in places due to condition of spine. Once beautiful embossed leather boards with historical contents well worth restoration.

Tanned pages with small spot on forward page edge - clean interior. Book-of-the-Month Club brochure laid in. Dust jacket has corner and edgewear. Interior at bottom edge shows damp stain which shows through slightly on outside.

Signed with following inscription: "May you enjoy this look at an El Toro and a lifestyle that has given way to a modern urban civilization. Sincerely, Joe Osterman, 1982". Book is crisp with clean interior. Blue cloth boards with bright gilt print on spine. Lower edge of front board near hinge has some minor spotting, and corners and spine ends have slight wear. Dust jacket has been tape repaired in several places from the inside. Chipping on corners with fraying and loss on top of spine. Edges have wear with small closed tears, and gold background shows substantial rubbing. Bottom edge of rear panel has nickel-size spot near hinge. Still, sturdy and intact and now in protective cover.
