A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". Forester's excellent story of the captain of a merchant ship leading a convoy in WWII, trying to avoid German submarine wolf packs. First Edition, First Printing. 310 pp. Red boards with bright gilt print and design on spine. Very slight right lean. Bottom page edge has a little spotting. Dust jacket has price intact. Front and spine is bright with minor corner wear. Rear panel shows dark rubbing on white background and has 1" piece missing from upper middle. Laid in is an article authored by Forester about his writing life with ink notation, 'Saturday Post 4-12-58'. Front paste down paper has former owner's bookplate with a taped on newsprint photo of Forester. Opposite end paper has ghosting from tape. Interior of book is clean. Pages slightly age-tanned. Nice collectible copy

First Edition, Fourth Printing of this classic Pulitzer Prize winning epic novel of the American West. This copy has been carried from Michigan to Texas & back. The previous owner proudly placed her name with a Michigan address, dated July 4, 1986, and her bookplate on the front pastedown paper. McMurtry signed on the front free end paper and taped beneath is a news clipping advertising the San Antonio Inter-American Bookfair Oct. 14-17 headlining Larry McMurtry and August Wilson. Above McMurtry's signature is a handwritten date, Oct. 14, 1988. Laid in is a letter to the editor of the Mineral Wells Index (TX) relating the events depicted in Lonesome Dove to the actual history of Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving. The book has clean interior with bottom page edge showing very slight shelf wear. Light corner and edge wear. Spine gives slightly, and top edge is creased and a little slack. Dust jacket has price intact with bright panels. Its top edge of spine is creased with inside showing some finish separation. Inside of bottom of dust jacket spine there is wear and some damp staining. Now in protective cover. 843 pp. Proudly used & owned signed copy.
