Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". Scarce history of Bosque County, Texas with Meridian, TX its county seat, and lovely treed and hilly countryside containing the cities of Valley Mills, Clifton and Walnut Springs. Large format, 9-1/4"W X 12-1/4"H. 800 pp. Black boards with pastedown depicting rural scene. Bright gilt pring. Very light edge wear. Front board has several very tiny white specks and a small brown mark on the right margin. Top page edge has very faint smudge, and forward page edge has a small spot and a little faint smudging. Interior is clean, bright and crisp. Laid in is an announcement of the book with guidelines for preserving family histories and a form to reserve a copy of the book, $50 each.

Signed by Maude Gilliland, author, on front free end paper. She tells the first-hand story of law enforcement in South Texas during prohibition, her husband, father and grandfather all Texas Rangers. Well indexed and resourced with bibliography. 175 pp. Blue boards with silver print. Spine has some wrinkling from manufacture, and corners are slightly bumped. Bottom edge of first few pages has a few spots. Else clean interior. Dust jacket, now in protective cover, has light creasing on top edge at spine. Front panel with photo of Rangers is bright, as is spine. Solid light rear panel shows a lfew darker spots, very small. Both flap fold show darkening at folds and on top edge. Nice copy of scarce history of border liquor smuggling and the efforts of Texas lawmen to stop it.

LBJ's memoir subtitled, "Perspectives of the Presidency 1963-1969' & Lady Bird's memoir, both signed, offered together. LBJ signed the Presidential bookplate on the half-title page and also signed on the dedication page with the inscription, "To G ___ West, with warm best wishes. Xmas '74". Affixed below the message is an 8 cent Lyndon Johnson postage stamp. Lady Bird also signed and inscribed her book to V___ West with a warm inscription on a bookplate on the front free end paper with same leaf design as dust jacket. Bonus collectible, laid in the LBJ book, is a Presidential holiday greeting in an envelope addressed by hand to Mr. & Mrs. West at an Odessa, TX address. Return address is LBJ Ranch, Stonewall, Texas 78671. LBJ's book 636 pp; Mrs. Johnson's 806 pp. Both books are in very good condition, his having darkened gilt print on cover. Both thick books have slight looseness in hinges. Clean and crisp interior. LBJ's inscription and signature were done in felt pen with some bleed on the reverse of the page. Both dust jackets have price intact with very minor edge wear. Both in new protective covers. The old protective covers had two blue lines which ghosted onto the dust jackets, one faint one on 'The Vantage Point' jacket and two on 'A White House Diary' on top and bottom edges. Rare Presidential items offered together. Pictures upon request.
