A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". We at Texas Star Books try to keep copies from Greene's list on hand. Some are easier to find than others, so we may not have them all. To view his picks, click on the book title. Signed and inscribed by Schiwetz on front free end paper dated 1962. With introduction by Walter Prescott Webb. Illustrations and paintings by foremost Texas Artist, Schiwetz. 1st Ed., 1st Ptg.134 pp. Oblong format, 11 3/4"W X 8 3/4"H. Tight and crisp copy with slight warp to top board. Bottom page edge has red ink rub, probably from production. Dust jacket has price intact. Significant creasing with some tearing and small amount chipping loss. Creasing on edges with 3/4" closed tear on top edge of front panel. Now in protective cover.

Notation from the era (early post WWII): White service men/women are listed first with African-Americans listed separately. Unpageinated. Pale blue leatherlike padded boards with American flag. Indentions in on right side of soft front board and across bottom about 1" from edge. Corners and spine ends have some wear with a little tearing. Front hinge is loosened and rear hinge is slightly loosened. End papers have world map. Rear blank end paper has small black smudge. Else clean and tight interior. Sturdy and collectible.

Interior is clean, bright and crisp. Laid in is an announcement of the book with guidelines for preserving family histories and a form to reserve a copy of the book, $50 each.
