Tales from the Terlingua Porch

Once the Chisos Mining Company Store, the Terlingua Trading Company still has the porch that generations have enjoyed, tourist and local alike. It's refuge from the sun, a place to kick back, have a cold one, and swap stories of the day or of days past. Best of all, it's a great spot to view the Chisos Mountains, directly east of the porch. Locals will tell you that they go there to "see the sun set twice". As the day grows late, the sun turns the Chisos into a glorious sight, and when the mountains begin to lose their sun-blazened glory folks walk out in the parking lot and look west to see the sun dipping over the horizon in a fiery farewell.

Blair Pittman (see bio to your right) has enjoyed the porch off and on for 60 years, and he's collected some of those stories in "Tales from the Terlingua Porch". With the aid of talented local artist, Mark Kneeskern, the stories come to life to bring a smile or warm the heart. There's a foreward by Bill Ivey, the owner of the Terlingua Ghost Town, whose dad is the subject of one of Blair's stories. It's a slice of life in the Big Bend, where rainbows wait.
