A.C. Greene's 50+ Best Books on Texas

A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". We at Texas Star Books try to keep copies from Greene's list on hand. Some are easier to find than others, so we may not have them all. To view his picks, click on the book title. New York, NY Roy Publishers, Inc. No Stated Edition Hard Cover Very Good-- Very Good 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall Horace Vernet 
112 pp. Book has slight cupping of boards and light corner bumping and edgewear. Front free end paper has smudge at forward edge. Pages 61 - 79 have scuffing/creasing on bottom margin. And last 5 pages have small tears (maybe 1/3"). Price-clipped dust jacket has corner and spine end bumping with slight tearing. Mauve background shows a little rubing on edges and hinges.

New York, NY Atheneum 1969 Hard Cover Fine Very Good 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall 
Beautiful and extensive illustrations and maps in this account of Lord Nelson's great victory over Napolean's navy at Trafalgar. Book has minimal shelfwear and inside is almost as new. Clipped dust jacket has some slight scuffing and wear at top and bottom of spine with a mended (outside & inside) tear to top of spine. Also chipped places on edges have been repaired with tape from inside. Back cover has creasing and a chip from fold. Now in protective cover.

Small format quarto, 7"W X 10"H. 272 pp. Tight and crisp copy with black boards showing very light edge wear. Bottom edge has remainder spray, but interior is clean and bright. Dust jacket has creasing and chipping to spine ends, corners and edges. Rear panel has a faint spot near upper corner and a few mall closed tears. Rear hinge area has 1/2" closed tear mid way. Now in protectie cover.

London World Books 1940 Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall 
Story of the Duke of Wellington, British military hero who bested Napolean at Waterloo. Red fabric covered boards, gilt lettering a little faded, embossing on front of book with angel and lettering, "Wellington - Waterloo". Nice portrait on frontispiece. Book corners a little worn,pages somewhat yellow - otherwise tight and good copy.
