A. C. Green has left us, but his love of Texas, its various parts, its history and literature lives through his bright and lively work. Greene, in his literate and plainspoken way, gave us the great gift of a guide to Texas literature in 1982, "The 50 Best Books on Texas" and in the 1998 revised version, The 50+ Best Books on Texas". 23 pp. in this recruiting pamphlet with a brief history of the U.S. Navy. Trade paperback is stapled binding that is tight. Substantial spotting on wraps. Edges have light wear and some creasing. Rear panel has a paperclip-shaped rustmark and discoloration on edges. 1" damp stain on bottom edge affects about 1/2" into pages at spine. Does not affect text. Title page has small hole near bottom edge.

Clipped dust jacket is intact, though rear is missing a large section from top, approx. 3"W X 3 1/4"H. Other pieces missing on front top edge, about 1 1/2" X 3/4" and at spine bottom - 1 1/2" X 1/2" Now in protective covering.

Previous owner's bookplate on front pasted down paper. Pages are tanned with age. Dust jacket is tattered with creasing, tearing and chipping loss. Missing pieces on front lower corner, 1 1/2" X 1 1/2"; front hinge, 1 3/4" X 1/2"; bottom of spine from rear hinge across to front panel, 2 3/4" X 3/4". Light background of rear panel shows rubbing with light smudging/spotting. Now in protective cover.

Tight and bright copy with a manufacturing defect, that being the flaps of the dust jacket glued to boards where the front and back pasted down paper is glued. The front flap has been pulled loose, but the back flap is firmly attached. Dust jacket front is clean and bright -- a few smudges on top of spine and on on back where it is darkened up and down the hinge and out about 2 1/2" toward middle of book. Also slight creasing and tearing on back edges.

Rear board is slight cupped. Corners and spine ends are slightly bumped. Very bottom edge of spine is a little faded. Dust jacket has light wear and spine is slightly sunned. Red graphics on front and rear. Inside of rear of dust jacket has large red damp stain which shows through to outside.
